A Style Consultant is passionate about apparel and accessories (A&A), brings the energy of style to life with compelling in-store presentations that enable quick and easy self-discovery. Style Consultants are welcoming and helpful in meeting guests needs on the sales floor and in the fitting room and have resources to provide assistance with outfitting, accessorizing and building the basket to drive top line sales.
At Target we believe in our team members having meaningful experiences that help them build and develop skills for a career. These roles can provide you with the:
- Skills in guest styling consultation, personalized shopping techniques and selling tactics that build the guests baskets
- Experience in retail business fundamentals: department sales trends, inventory management, and process efficiency and improvement
- Knowledge in industry trends including: style, fit, fabric and brand differentiation
As a Style Consultant, no tow days are ever the same, but a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities:
- Create a welcoming experience by authentically greeting all guests
- Observe to quickly understand whether a guest needs assistance or wants to interact. Follow body language and verbal clues to tailor your approach
- Gain knowledge from store tools to have a clear understanding of key metrics, sales goals, top and bottom departments, inventory levels, top shortage categories, guest traffic and peak times
- Ensure product availability by keeping the Apparel & Accessories area replenished and organized with full size ranges to create a guest ready, easy-to-shop experience that’s welcoming and inspiring for all
- Engage with guest in a genuine way, which includes asking questions to better understand their specific presentations
- Inspire guests to create outfits through personal interaction, mannequin moments and compelling visual presentations
- Create an inviting shopping environment by staying current on trends and brand guides along with executing visual standards and visual merchandising guides
- Encourage guests to explore all apparel and accessories areas with confidence by ensuring product is in stock , organized, signed correctly and merchandised to support style trends
- Ensure product is available for guests to shop bgy assessing salesfloor and backroom inventory and replenishing product as needed
- Be knowledgeable about the tools, products, and services available in the total store, and specific to your area, to solve issues for the guest and improve their experience
- Build business acumen to stay ahead of product sell- through, promotional sales and clearance merchandising so guest always experience an organized shopping destination
- Support changes to product assortment and keep the area inspiring to guest all year round by remerchandising new product and maintaining a brand space following new sets
- Greet the guest and introduce yourself as the consultant in the department while balancing current task
- Actively highlight and introduce guests to new brands to build loyalty and brand affinity; Leverage signing and product fact tags to inform the guest on style, fit and fabrication
- Prioritize guest interaction and engagement while balancing task; focus on the apparel and accessories floorpad and fitting room; Leverage your style routines to complete task while balancing service
- Engage guests on the sales floor and extend the experience to the fitting room while suggesting complimentary styles and accessories, and checking in frequently for additional needs
- Use myCheckout to consistently offer selections and sizes that are not available and order for the guest right in the store
- Upon final selection, ask if there is anything else you can do for the guest
- Thank the guest in a genuine way and let them know we’re happy they chose to shop at Target. Remind them that you are here to help in the future Always demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance
- All other duties based on business needs

- Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot
- Effective communication skills

- Accurately handle cash register operations
- Climb up and down ladders
- Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds
- Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends and holidays) and regular attendance necessary
